Aftercare
One moon to heal
A fresh tattoo heals in about one turn of the moon.
New moon · Day 1
Keep the wrap on as long as your artist told you. Wash your hands, then wash the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and unscented soap. Pat dry with clean paper towel.
Crescent · Days 2–3
Wash two to three times a day. Apply a thin layer of the balm your artist recommends. Thin, so the skin can breathe.
First quarter · Week 1
Flaking and itching are normal. Don't scratch, don't pick, don't peel. Let it fall away on its own.
Gibbous · Week 2
No pools, sea, saunas or baths. Keep it out of direct sun. Wear loose, clean clothes over it.
Full moon · Weeks 3–4
The surface has healed. From now on, SPF 50 keeps the blacks deep and the greys soft.
Spreading redness, heat, swelling or fever are not normal healing. See a doctor, then tell us.
